Summary: Northern Mantis Kung-Fu Basic Kicks
This excerpt from Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing’s instructional video covers three fundamental kicks in the Seven-Star Northern Mantis Kung-Fu system:
Bai Men Tui (閉門腿) – “Door-Shutting Kick”
- Also known as a roundhouse kick
- Execute by lifting the lead leg’s knee and extending it in a snapping motion at a 45-degree angle
- Make direct contact with the target
Sup Ji Tui (十字腿) – “Cross Kick”
- Lift the lead leg/knee and snap the kick outward
- Make contact with the instep of the foot
- Typically targets the groin area
- Practice by alternating between right and left legs
Ja Tui (扎腿) – “Leg-Bumping Kick” or “Shin Kick”
- Uses the rear leg (not the lead leg)
- Lift the knee and shoot the leg straight out
- Make contact with the heel and inside of the foot
The video showcases these techniques through Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing’s demonstration of each kick, accompanied by Master John Cheng’s explanation of the correct execution and targeting.
