SUMMARY: Mantis Training Drills
This tutorial covers several two-person training drills from Northern Mantis Kung Fu demonstrated by Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing:
Chin Si Sau (纏絲手) – A wrist strengthening drill where partners’ hands wrap over each other while shifting weight forward and backward. Develops wrist and finger strength plus stance work.
Single Wrist Strengthening – A simpler variation using Diu Sau (刁手) where practitioners hook with the last three fingers and practice pulling motions with both left and right hands.
3-Stars Blocking – A drill designed to strengthen forearms, legs, and sweeping techniques. Involves blocking and kicking. Traditional herbal Dit Da Jow formula is recommended afterward to prevent bruising.
Ou Lou Choy (抅摟採) – A drill focusing on hooking, grabbing, plucking, and punching techniques. One practitioner works on the inside gate while the other works the outside gate. Develops hand-eye coordination and grabbing/plucking skills. Should be practiced slowly at first, then with increasing speed.
Kwa (掛) Training – A drill using upward blocks that strengthens the forearms. Grandmaster Lee Kam Wing demonstrates alternating left and right upward blocks with reverse punches.
